Retro-Commissioning Program

Retro-Commissioning Program
Providing Energy Efficiency in Operations

Reduce Electricity Consumption by Keeping Your Facility in Top Condition

Retro-Commissioning is a new energy efficiency program offered by CenterPoint Energy. This program will help you "tune-up" your existing facility.

The Retro-Commissioning Program is designed to achieve energy and peak demand savings in the CenterPoint Energy service territory. Savings are realized through the systematic evaluation of electric energy-using systems and subsequent implementation of low-cost measures. These measures target system operation and maintenance opportunities.

When your facility is properly commissioned and operated, you will be maximizing efficiency and your business gains a competitive edge.

This program was designed to comply with Senate Bill 7 (SB7) passed by the Texas Legislature in 1999 which restructured the state's electric utility industry. Under this law, each investor-owned utility is to meet a 10% reduction in its annual system demand growth.

Take Steps To Save Energy and Improve Your Bottom Line

Retro-commissioning your facility involves a two-step process:
evaluation and implementation.

Evaluation

The program will subsidize the costs for you to have a qualified RCx agent to evaluate the condition of the energy-using systems in your facility and identify opportunities to improve performance. Resulting recommendations are presented in a written report that details how to best improve the efficiency of your facility's systems.

Implementation

Select your own contractor or perform the work with in-house staff to implement the agreed upon retro-commissioning recommendations that have a simple payback or one year or less. You will need to make a commitment to invest a minimum of $10,000 and have the project completed by year end.

What Retro-Commissioning can do for your facility

Non-optional control strategies, faulty equipment, and deferred maintenance may result in system inefficiencies that are not readily noticeable. As a result, facility owners may not be aware of the sizeable savings opportunities that are available from retro-commissioning.

Additional benefits of the retro-commissioning program can include:

  • Reduced maintenance and repair costs and longer equipment life
  • More efficient use of systems
  • A more comfortable and productive environment for tenants and employees
  • An opportunity for your staff to work hand-in-hand with expert engineers to increase their knowledge of the efficient and effective operation of the building systems
  • Identification of attractive capital projects that may be funded by the CenterPoint Energy's Commercial and Industrial Standard Offer Program
  • Sign up today to start down the path to improved operations

    Important Notes:

Funding provided by the regulated electric utility for this program is approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas in support of statewide energy efficiency efforts.
CenterPoint Energy is not a party to the agreement between you and your RCx Agent, and the RCx Agent is solely responsible for the performance of the work and contract fulfillment.
